COVID-19 Update September 16, 2020

Hurricane Sally made landfall early this morning as a Category 2 storm with 105mph winds and has continued on its gradual way towards Georgia and the Carolinas. Most of the Gulf Coast is facing major flooding after up to 30 inches of rainfall combined with record storm surges. Sally is the eighth named storm to hit the continental U.S. this year — the most through September 16 in recorded history. I know it sounds like a broken record at this point, but please keep the people of these areas in your thoughts and prayers. If you haven’t had a chance to read our Hurricane Safety & Preparation Guide, at the end, we provided links to some of the wonderful organizations that are accepting donations to help the victims of this year’s natural disasters.

In today’s COVID-19 news, the OMB has instructed its internal agencies to have employees defer the federal workers’ payroll taxes. As government employees, there is far less risk involved than for businesses, so our guess is that they are not worried about the potential liability caused if/when these workers leave their jobs.

One issue that most workplaces are facing these days is conflict among employees over differing viewpoints for coping with Coronavirus. Employers should recognize potential confrontational scenarios and determine how best to stop them before they happen. If we can help with your pandemic policy, don’t hesitate to reach out for guidance.

Lastly, you might remember we mentioned that we are launching a new vlog series called “Dialed in with Delta,” kicking off the first episode with a local panel of experts covering the controversial topic of back to school safety. Due to the weather, we postponed this to next week, so look out for a link to register soon. Don’t forget, our bi-weekly webinars continue this week for tomorrow at 3pm – members of our staff have sent out separate emails with more information.
