COVID-19 Update July 28, 2020

Yesterday, we sent out information on a series of bills issued by the Senate Republicans. SHRM summarized their proposals, which include a reduced federal unemployment benefit, business liability protection from COVID-19-related lawsuits, additional Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans for certain qualifying businesses, and a second round of stimulus checks. Remember nothing is final until is signed into law by the president.

There are still some concerns about how this country is going to pay for these trillion-dollar stimulus packages; however, many believe it’s not nearly enough. The initial bills passed cost the county $2 trillion, and the next would accumulate an additional $1 trillion. We definitely need to be prudent about how government aid will benefit both the people and the businesses that are struggling to get through the pandemic. SHRM also released an interesting article about technology and the future of work, finding that 42% of core skills required to perform existing jobs will change in the next two years.

Furthermore, the State of Louisiana published guidelines on return-to-work and return-to-school self-certifications for COVID-19 along with a guide to help businesses and employers safely allow employees to return to work following a positive test result, a self-imposed quarantine from exposure, or after experiencing Coronavirus symptoms. Everyone should have updated their company policies for the pandemic, and if not, Delta is more than happy to help with these added revisions.
