The 2020 presidential election during a pandemic sure has been interesting, especially given the record turnout at the polls. Hopefully, by 2024 there will be more advanced technology to streamline the voting and counting processes since it looks like we will be waiting a few days for the final results. Once we have a better idea of how the government is shaping up, we’ll provide an update and share predictions from our company perspective.

Furthermore, there were several ballot measures that will impact the workplace in several states for approval. Florida voted on raising the minimum wage, making gradual increases before reaching $15/hour in 2026. Colorado voted to establish a statewide program for paid family and medical leave, and employers should be proactive in creating a timeline for implementing the new payroll tax. Voters in 5 states (Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, South Dakota, Mississippi) have agreed on the legalization of marijuana for medical or recreational use. And finally, California voted in favor of Proposition 24, which enforces new data privacy obligations, and Proposition 22, which ensures that app-based gig-economy drivers receive certain benefits in their employee classification.

Hang in there, and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions on how the election results will affect your business.
