COVID-19 Update August 11, 2020

The presidential executive orders released over the weekend to provide financial relief to those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in a lot more questions than answers. That said, here is the memo we sent out to our clients today about the employee social security tax deferment order, summarizing the key provisions of the memorandum. SHRM has also outlined some of the changes payroll managers should be prepared to make by September 1, 2020, along with some issues that may come up. Stay tuned for further updates.

Employers need to ensure they are following state laws and the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) when firing or disciplining employees for offensive social media posts. With the current political climate, you should be holding your employees accountable for social media conduct that does not align with company values, especially any type of hate speech or hostile language that threatens work environments or damages client relationships. Delta is here to help with reviewing and updating your employee handbooks and policies. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
